Circuit Judge John McBain told MLive a day later he was angered by Camia Gamet's apparent lack of penitence and her rudeness to Marcel Hill's family.
“Sometimes, I think a judge needs a little fire in the right kind of cases,” McBain said Thursday.
Gamet, 31, was sentenced to life with no parole Wednesday for killing Hill, 38. Investigators said Hill was beaten with a floor lamp and stabbed 11 times in the couple's apartment in Jackson last May.
Hill's aunt, Diana Banks-Joiner, who spoke during the sentencing hearing, said that Gamet had a history of abuse. She said Hill was unwilling to report her assaults.
At one point, Gamet interrupted her, asking "Is that all?" The judge responded by saying he would use duct tape to keep her mouth closed if she did not remain quiet.
“You were relentless. You stabbed. You stabbed. You stabbed. You stabbed. You stabbed until he was dead," the judge said as he announced the sentence. "I hope you die in prison."
Gamet maintains she thought Hill was an intruder and said she loved him. But Banks-Joiner said she revealed the "true Camia" in the courtroom.
