WASHINGTON, April 16 (UPI) -- A recent report from the Environmental Protection Agency says that the U.S. has seen a 10 percent drop in greenhouse gas emissions since 2005.
The EPA noted the decrease in its annual report of greenhouse emissions, and also said the country is more than halfway to its goal for greenhouse gas emission reduction by 2020.
The EPA attributed the reduction to more fuel-efficient cars in the U.S. and the switch from coal to cleaner fuels. The Obama administration is working to continue this trend, which includes crafting emissions agreements with China and India to reduce pollution.
The news is welcome as climate change has become a pressing topic globally. In a report released from the United Nations Sunday, researchers warned that the world was falling behind on the issue, and must make a significant push to reduce emissions or face dire consequences.
