BOSTON, April 16 (UPI) -- A man dressed in black chanting "Boston strong! Boston strong!" was arrested Tuesday for dropping two backpacks near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.
The 25-year-old man, identified as Kevin Edson, was walking down Boylston street with two backpacks, which he placed near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, where two explosions occurred last year. Police later detonated the two backpacks, which they say contained a rice cooker in one of them filled with confetti. The second bag may have contained photo equipment.
Boston police Superintendent Randall Halstead said that an officer spotted the man, who was acting strangely, but did not give further details about his behavior. He said that both bags were rendered safe before being detonated.
Police said Edson will be arraigned Wednesday on charges of threatening battery, possession of a hoax device, threat to commit a crime, disturbing the peace, disturbing a public assembly, and disorderly conduct.
