ALBUQUERQUE, April 10 (UPI) -- A medical helicopter crashed on the roof of University of New Mexico Hospital on Thursday, bursting into to flames and injuring the pilot.

There were three people on the aircraft, which had just transported a patient to the Albuquerque hospital. Only the pilot sustained an injury and was listed in good and stable condition.

A witness said they observed the helicopter lift off from the roof about 30 feet before it began to wobble and crashed back down onto the roof. It burst into flames, which were extinguished by a rooftop sprinkler system.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the accident, which took place about 5:45 p.m.
