Marine shoots fellow gate guard at Camp Lejeune

Marine Corps officials are saying it is an isolated incident and not an act of terrorism or shooting rampage like the one at Fort Hood last week.

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C., April 9 (UPI) -- Marine Corp officials are investigating a shooting after a Marine killed his fellow gate guard at Camp Lejeune evening.

It's unclear how many times the Marine was shot, and he died despite the attempts responding Provost Marshals made to revive him. The Marines' names are being withheld until the family of the fallen Marine can be notified.

The Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) is investigating and said the incident happened at the main gate at approximately 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Nat Fahy, spokesman for Camp Lejeune, said residents were notified of the killing on Facebook but the base was not put under lockdown.
