BOSTON, April 8 (UPI) -- U.S. President Barack Obama's aunt, Zeituni Onyango, died Monday in her sleep in Boston after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Onyango, who was born in 1952 in Kenya, was Obama's father's half-sister.

The 61-year-old was denied asylum in the United States three times, and finally won on her fourth try in 2010 with the Immigration Court in Boston.
