KENT, Ohio, April 3 (UPI) -- Police arrested a 24-year-old Kent State University student Wednesday night after he opened fire on the campus.

Quavaugntay Tyler, of Cleveland, was the only person injured in the incident, which caused the entire campus to go on lockdown around 9:15 p.m.

The gunfire, which occurred at about 8:10 p.m., happened after an apparent confrontation between a man and a woman on campus.

Tyler suffered a gunshot wound to the hand and was transported to Robinson Memorial Hospital. He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon.

Kent State President Lester A. Lefton said "the safety and health of our students, employees and campus visitors is the number one priority," in a message released on the school's website.
