March 24 (UPI) -- Rescue workers found another six bodies 55 miles north of Seattle, where Saturday's devastating, one-square-mile mudslide has destroyed homes and killed more than a dozen people.

Snohomish County officials confirmed Monday afternoon that the death toll had risen to 14.

Snohomish County Emergency Management Director John Pennington said in a Monday morning statement that 108 people are still unaccounted for. That number has not changed because they have yet to identify the deceased.

That does not necessarily "mean that there are 108 injuries or fatalities," Pennington stressed. "We have received 108 reports. That is very important to clarify."

Snohomish County Fire District 21 Chief Travis Hots called the situation "very grim," but said officials still hoped to find people alive in the debris.

“We are still in a rescue mode,” he said.
