COOKEVILLE, Tenn., March 21 (UPI) -- A New Jersey man is being held without bail charged with killing Courtney Cash, great-niece of late music legend Johnny Cash, in her Baxter, Tenn., home.

Wayne Masciarella of Cape May, N.J., allegedly stabbed Cash, 23, and her boyfriend Wednesday, killing her and wounding William Austin Johnson, the (Nashville) Tennessean reported. Cash's body was found in a cedar box in her home after Johnson showed up at a hospital with multiple stab wounds, bringing his 20-month-old daughter, who was not hurt, with him.

Putnam County Sheriff David Andrews described Masciarella as a friend of Cash and Johnson. Masciarella, who has a lengthy arrest record in Tennessee, allegedly attacked the couple during an argument.

Cash's grandfather, Tommy Cash, a singer-songwriter and brother of the more famous Johnny Cash, released a statement on the killing.

"Courtney and her boyfriend are beloved members of my family and like you we have a lot of questions and emotions that we are beginning to sort through today,'' Tommy Cash said. "We are completely heartbroken. It is a time like this that we are grateful for our faith and trusting the loving guidance of God."
