March 21 (UPI) -- Soul singer Anita Baker is wanted by police in Michigan after she skipped a court date to face accusations she failed to pay more than $15,000 for work on her Grosse Point estate.

Ray Smith Painting and Decorating claims Baker never paid up for thousands of dollars worth of work the company did at her home in the tony neighborhood northeast of Detroit.

"We certainly would have liked to resolve it before now. We just want to try to get my client his money," said Daniel Gerow, attorney for Ray Smith Painting. "We're not trying to give her any hard time or anything unnecessary. We just would like to collect the money for my client. He's owed the money, and that could end it all right then."

Baker previously faced jail time in 2010 when a judge threatened to throw her behind bars for allegedly failing to sign divorce documents.

Baker reportedly learned of the news while watching television at home Thursday night.
