The information was discovered by the person who bought the laptop and who also happened to be a technology security official, the New York Daily News reported.
The security official worked for a New York City Transit vendor and reported it to the company, which then returned the CD to the MTA.
The information contained on the drive included employee names, social security numbers, dates of birth and titles.
“An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the security breach,” said a letter from MTA Chief Information Officer Sidney Gellineau to the people affected.
