In the restaurant chain's most recent FEC filing, the company indicated the costs of food items like avocados, beef, dairy and chicken went up in 2013 and could rise even more in 2014.
“Alternatively, in the event of cost increases with respect to one or more of our raw ingredients, we may choose to temporarily suspend serving menu items, such as guacamole or one or more of our salsas, rather than paying the increased cost for the ingredients," the filing said.
That led to a nationwide panic that the beloved green stuff might soon be pulled from Chipotle restaurants everywhere.
But Chris Arnold, a Chipotle spokesman, said the news "is way overblown."
He said the filing and risk assessment of continuing to serve guacamole was a routine disclosure.
"As a public company ... we are required to disclose any potential issues that could have potential impact on our business, and we do that very thoroughly," he said.
