Northwestern professor accused of sexual harassment cancels class

EVANSTON, Ill., March 4 (UPI) -- A professor at Northwestern University Tuesday canceled class ahead of a planned sit-in protest in his Evanston, Ill., classroom.

Students planned to stage a sit-in in the classroom of philosophy Professor Peter Ludlow related to sexual harassment allegations, WMAQ-TV, Chicago, reported.

Ludlow and Northwestern are facing lawsuits filed by a current student who alleges Ludlow sexually harassed her two years ago. The school said it has taken disciplinary action against Ludlow but has not removed him from the faculty.

The student alleged Ludlow gave her alcohol at an art event in Chicago in February 2012. She said the professor then kissed her, fondled her and brought her back to his apartment. She said she woke up in his bed and convinced him to take her home. She did not allege a sexual act had taken place.

"We protest the university's decision to continue to employ Ludlow and allow him to teach classes, despite university investigations findings that he violated their sexual harassment policy by sexually harassing an undergraduate student," read a statement on Facebook before Tuesday's planned protest.
