PHILADELPHIA, March 3 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy warship USS Somerset became official Saturday in a ceremony in Philadelphia that paid special tribute to the victims of the crash of Flight 93 during the Sept. 11, 2011, terror attacks.
The ship, which carries a crew of Navy and Marine Corps, was named in honor of the location of the jetliner crash in Shanksville, Pa., in Somerset County.
“You will forever share a bond with our loved ones and the Somerset County community from where so much was given and lost," said Gordon Felt, president of the Families of Flight 93, at the ceremony.
“This is all about faithfulness, and that crew on Flight 93 was faithful all the way till the end and they fought hard,” said James Amos, of the Marine Corps. “And that’s what this ship is going to do for the United States of America.”
