The storm was moving across the northern Rockies and central Plains Sunday toward the Midwest toward the Northeast and mid-Atlantic states, Accuweather.com reported.
As much as 6 inches of snow was predicted for some areas, including Kansas City, Mo., Harrisonburg, Va., Trenton, N.J., Washington and Philadelphia.
The storm was expected to cause major delays on roads and at airports.
The storm brought heavy rain to Southern California Saturday, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Los Angeles received more than 3 inches of rain by Saturday afternoon.
"We said it was going to be a strong storm, and it was. There was some very intense rain," said Bonnie Bartling, a weather specialist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard.
Bartling said there was a slight chance of thunderstorms in Los Angeles on Sunday.
