BALL GROUND, Ga., Feb. 28 (UPI) -- A man charged in a fatal car crash that killed his bride on the night of his wedding was drunk driving, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation says.
Ryan Quinton, 27, was arrested Wednesday and charged with drunken driving, first degree vehicular homicide, laying drag, reckless driving, and a failure to maintain his lane for the Dec. 29 crash that killed his new bride Kali Dobson, 25, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. The laying drag charge was for zig-zagging across the street.
Investigators said Quinton and Dobson left their wedding reception in Ball Ground, Ga., in their Pontiac Firebird. At some point during the drive, the car veered off the road and rolled down an embankment. Dobson was thrown from the car and died at the scene, while Quinton suffered injuries and was treated at a local hospital.
On Monday, troopers took out an arrest warrant for Quinton after GBI crime lab test results determined that he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.114 at the time of the crash. The legal limit in Georgia is 0.08.
Quinton surrendered Wednesday and was later released from the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on a $25,000 bond, said Lt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the sheriff's office.
Quinton's attorneys said their client's "arrest only compounds the anguish he has already experienced in dealing with the loss of his wife."
