The proposed solution is in response to the packed shelters, lack of room for people with subsidy vouchers, and selective landlords. The housing would be coordinated by a non-profit and the housing would last for five years while the tenants looked for work and housing.
The daily rate of $40 a day would be paid by city coupons and tenant contribution. Some of the more expensive hotels turn their nose up at the plan but smaller facilities believe it could help their business. If the city council passes the legislation, they could start implementing the plan as early as this summer.
