Boehner's favorability ratings back to pre-shutdown level

PRINCETON, N.J., Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Favorability ratings for House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, have rebounded to levels before the partial government shutdown last fall, a Gallup poll indicated.

Even though his favorable ratings climbed from record lows since the shutdown, most Americans said they have an unfavorable view of Boehner, 50 percent to 32 percent, survey results released Wednesday indicted.

After the shutdown in October -- for which congressional Republicans received the lion's share of blame -- Boehner saw his image drop to 27 percent favorable and 51 percent unfavorable. The latest poll indicated his favorability was back close to where it was in April 2013 at 31 percent, the Princeton, N.J., polling agency said.

In the same survey, President Obama's favorable-unfavorable ratings were 52 percent to 46 percent, Gallup said.

Results are based on nationwide telephone interviews with 1,023 adults conducted Feb. 6-9. The margin of error is 4 percentage points.
