SARASOTA, Fla., Feb. 24 (UPI) -- A Chihuahua puppy in Sarasota, Fla., was recovering and a man faces animal cruelty charges for allegedly dousing it in hot sauce, authorities said.

Police said Ephrian Myles, 47, became irritated Sunday when the 3-month-old puppy, named Gizmo, started having a seizure and began yelping. Myles allegedly covered the dog in hot sauce, some of which got in the dog's eyes and down its throat, WWSB-TV, Sarasota, reported.

The dog's owner, who was not identified in the report, brought Gizmo to a nearby fire station for help after learning what happened to him.

Myles was arrested and charged with felony aggravated animal cruelty. He was being held in the Sarasota County jail on a $5,000 bond.

The dog was taken to Animal Services and was expected to be OK.
