Americans think Obama is not respected by world leaders

PRINCETON, N.J., Feb. 24 (UPI) -- A majority of Americans think President Barack Obama is not respected by other world leaders, a Gallup poll released Monday found.

The poll, conducted Feb. 6-9, found that 53 percent of Americans think that other world leaders do not respect Obama, Gallup reported.

Forty-one percent of respondents said they believe Obama has the respect of other world leaders.

In 2013, 51 percent of respondents said they think leaders from other countries respect Obama while 43 percent said the opposite.

Gallup said the shift is mainly due to Democrats and independents, while Republicans' views on Obama have remained negative. Last year, 80 percent of Democrats and 49 percent of independents said they believe Obama was respected by world leaders, while 69 and 34 percent said the same this year, respectively.

Meanwhile, a 51 percent of Americans think the international community views the U.S. as a country favorably, while 47 percent said the U.S. is viewed unfavorably.

Gallup interviewed 1,023 adults nationwide. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.
