Beer on line in friendly hockey wager between Obama, Harper

WASHINGTON, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- President Obama owes Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper a case of beer after Team Canada beat Team USA for Olympic gold in women's hockey at Sochi, Russia.

The two leaders made a friendly wager on the outcomes of the women's hockey final Thursday and the men's hockey semifinal Friday: a case of beer for each game.

The Canadian women's team came from behind in the final minutes of regulation to tie the U.S. skaters 2-2 and won 3-2 on a power play in sudden-death overtime.

"@pmharper and I bet on the women's and men's US-Canada hockey games. Winner gets a case of beer for each game. #GoTeamUSA! –bo," Obama posted the White House Twitter page.

On his Twitter page, Harper ‏said, "I look forward to watching the game later and @barackobama, I look forward to my case of beer. #Sochi2014 #WeAreWinter @HC_Women

Canada's men's team beat the U.S. squad 3-2 in overtime in the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver to win the gold medal.
