Eric Barron appointed Penn State's new president

STATE COLLEGE, Pa., Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Eric Barron, president of Florida State University since 2010, has been named Penn State University president, Penn State's board of trustees announced Monday.

Barron, 62, a former Penn State dean and earth sciences professor, will succeed Rodney Erickson, who led the school as the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal rocked the school community, the (State College, Pa.) Centre Daily Times said.

Barron was officially appointed Monday, and will begin his duties on or before May 12, a statement from the school said..
