Florida underage sex sting tallies 23 arrests

CLERMONT, Fla., Feb. 13 (UPI) -- An undercover sting targeting alleged child molesters in central Florida this week resulted in 23 arrests, Lake County sheriff's deputies said.

The suspects were snared in a pre-Valentine's Day online sting dubbed "Be Mine," which featured detectives posing as minors offering sex with adults.

"They never learn," said Sheriff Gary Borders. "As long as they're out there, we will continue to work these operations and put them in jail."

The suspects ranged in age from 27 to nearly 50 and came from various walks of life. The Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel said they included a paramedic from nearby Orange County, a valet parking attendant at a strip club and three employees of Walt Disney World. Disney told the newspaper the three had been suspended without pay pending further action on the charges.

The suspects also often showed up at the pre-arranged site in Clermont bearing gifts such as marijuana, vodka, candy and, in one case, a McDonald's Happy Meal.
