Amanda Knox proclaims her innocence in new Twitter photograph

SEATTLE, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Amanda Knox, convicted in Italy of killing her housemate, has changed her Twitter profile photo to include a homemade sign proclaiming her innocence.

The photo is black and white and shows a short-haired Knox soberly dressed in a dark top. She holds up a sign that reads "Siamo innocente," Italian for "We're innocent."

Knox and her former boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, were convicted in Perugia of killing Meredith Kercher in what prosecutors said was a drug-fueled sex game. They were acquitted on appeal and then convicted again.

Kercher from the London area and Knox, an exchange student from Seattle, were sharing a house during a year in Perugia. Supporters point to a total absence of physical evidence linking Knox or Sollecito to the crime and say the sole killer was Rudy Guede, whose DNA was found on Kercher's body.

Knox spent several years in prison before winning her appeal and did not return to Italy for the third trial. The Italian government has not sought her extradition, and Sollecito remains free in Italy pending another appeal. Guede is serving a prison term.
