BELOIT, Wis., Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Police said Tuesday they had not ruled out more arrests in the kidnapping of Beloit, Wis., baby found unharmed after allegedly being abducted by his aunt.
Newborn Kayden Powell is back with his parents after he was found at an Iowa gas station Friday, 24 hours after his mother reported him missing from his crib. Kristen Smith, the baby's aunt and an Iowa resident, faces federal kidnapping charges, WISN-TV, Milwaukee, reported.
Investigators in Rock County, Wis., said the case remained open, adding authorities found a prosthetic "baby bump" in Smith's car when she was pulled over. They allege she faked her own pregnancy and told friends on social media she had given birth.
"While the baby was found and there is some closure in that way, I think it's going to be a while before we have the entire case wrapped up," Rock County Sheriff's Department Cmdr. Troy Knudsen said, adding there is a possibility of more arrests.
"A lot of us are still struggling to understand what the thought processes are and were and what's all coming into play, but before we are done, we will know."
The U.S. Attorney's Office said Smith will appear in court Friday, and could be brought back to Wisconsin to face additional charges.
