Oklahoma inmate charged with threatening life of President Obama

TULSA, Okla., Feb. 6 (UPI) -- An 18-year-old Oklahoma man has been indicted for allegedly making a written threat against the life of President Barack Obama, federal prosecutors say.

Hunter Lee Hines is charged with making the threat in a letter he wrote while incarcerated in the Rogers County jail, the Tulsa (Okla.) World reported Wednesday.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Cyran said the letter, addressed to the White House, was intercepted by jail deputies in mid-December.

Cyran did not release the exact words of the letter, but said it contained "a threat to take the life and inflict bodily harm upon the president of the United States of America."

If convicted, Hines could be sentenced to a maximum of five years in federal prison.

Hines has been jailed since May 2013 on several state charges, including first-degree rape of a child younger than 14.
