NEW YORK, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- A New York man was released Thursday, two decades after he was wrongly convicted of killing his mother, sister and another girl.
Anthony Yarbough appeared in Brooklyn Supreme Court, the trial-level court in New York State, with co-defendant Sharrif Wilson, the New York Post reported. Both left the court free men for the first time in almost 20 years.
Yarbough, now 40, was arrested hours after he called 911 to report finding the bodies of his mother, Annie Yarbough, her daughter, Chavonn Barnes, and Chavonn's friend, Latasha Knox. The three had been strangled in the family apartment, which was also a crack den.
Wilson, who was with Yarbough that day, agreed to testify for the prosecution in return for a shorter sentence. But he retracted his testimony in 2005.
DNA found in a 1999 homicide helped clear Yarbough and Wilson. The same DNA was found on Annie Yarbough's body, but by 1999 both Yarbough and Wilson had been in prison for years.
