Michigan mother charged in death of dismembered son

ST. CLAIR SHORES, Mich., Feb. 3 (UPI) -- A Michigan mother was charged Monday with dismembering her 32-year-old son's body but not killing him, authorities said.

Registered nurse Donna Scrivo, 59, of St. Clair Shores is accused of cutting up the body of her son Ramsay and dropping off the pieces in plastic bags in four locations in China and St. Clair townships last week, the Detroit News reported.

The woman had been her son's legal guardian since he turned suicidal last year and moved in with him, the newspaper said.

Police were still investigating the death of her son, who police and court records showed had become despondent over the terminal heart illness of his father, who died in May.

During her arraignment in St. Clair Shores District Court, Scrivo was charged with mutilating and illegally removing a corpse, the News said. An investigator said she filed a missing persons report on her son Jan. 27, three days before his remains were found. She had told police her son had left home Jan. 26.

Scrivo was being held on $100,000 bond in the Macomb County Jail pending her next court appearance Feb. 11.
