Another major snowstorm rolls into U.S. Midwest, Canada

CHICAGO, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Chicago's fleet of several hundred snowplows was back on the streets Saturday with the arrival of another major winter storm.

Up to seven inches of snow was expected to fall in some parts of the winter-weary area with winds gusting to 25 mile per hour, which will likely have an impact on roads and air travel.

The Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation said its 280 plows and salt trucks were busy Friday night treating major roads and clearing side streets to get a jump on the storm.

Temperatures were expected to remain below freezing and dip below zero Sunday night.

The latest storm will add to a growing snowfall total for the Chicago area.

The Chicago Tribune said January 2014 was already considered the third-snowiest January since 1984 with 33.5 inches recorded at O'Hare International Airport.

A slow-moving front brought snow overnight to the Kansas City and Quad City areas.

AccuWeather.com said the threat of icing existed in St. Louis, and folks in Detroit and southern Ontario could expect to break out the snow shovels Saturday into early Sunday.
