Ohio grandmother arrested on child endangerment counts

NEW STRAITSVILLE, Ohio, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- An Ohio woman was charged with kidnapping and child abuse offenses after police watched a video of alleged abuse taken by a granddaughter, police said.

Karen Sharpe, 54, of New Straitsville was arrested Wednesday after Hocking County Sheriff's Office Detective Sgt. Ed Downs watched a cellphone video taken by another granddaughter, 13.

The video allegedly shows Sharpe forcing soiled men's underwear into the mouth of the girl, 11, and covering her mouth with tape. When the girl vomited, Sharpe allegedly told her to swallow it, the Columbus Dispatch reported Friday.

"The most disgusting, heinous child abuse I've ever seen," Downs commented.

Sharpe is charged with kidnapping, two felony counts of child endangerment and misdemeanor counts of endangering children, assault and domestic violence.

Sharpe had custody of the two girls, who share the same mother, Downs said.

The girls were removed from the home and relocated by county children's services.
