New London, Conn., man dies after falling into trash compactor

NEW LONDON, Conn., Jan. 30 (UPI) -- A 59-year-old man was killed Thursday after he fell into a trash compactor at a transfer station in New London, Conn., police said.

Emergency responders arrived at the transfer station at 45 Lewis Street at 2:30 p.m. to find the man lodged in the machine's hopper, WVIT-TV, Hartford, reported.

The New London resident was transported to a hospital where he was declared dead, the TV station said.

Police and the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration was investigating.
