WASHINGTON, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- U.S. President Obama in his State of the Union speech Tuesday called on Congress and businesses to help out-of-work Americans.

Obama called on Congress to extend jobless benefits and companies to do more hiring.

"Congress, give these hardworking, responsible Americans that chance," he said. "They need our help, but more important, this country needs them in the game.

"That's why I've been asking CEOs to give more long-term unemployed workers a fair shot at that new job and new chance to support their families. ...

America, he said, is stronger when it "fields a full team."
