WASHINGTON, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- U.S. President Obama, in his State of the Union address Tuesday, said 2014 can be a "breakthrough year" for America.

He cited the lowest unemployment rate in more than five years, falling federal deficits, the rebounding housing market, and the growing manufacturing and oil production sectors.

"That's why I believe this can be a breakthrough year for America," Obama said in a nationally televised speech delivered to a joint session of Congress in the House chamber. "After five years of grit and determined effort, the United States is better-positioned for the 21st century than any other nation on Earth."
