CLOVIS, N.M., Jan. 26 (UPI) -- A convicted killer who escaped from a New Mexico prison in 2008 has been extradited back to the state to serve the remainder of his sentence, officials said.
Edward Salas, who was serving a life sentence plus 56 years for his role in the 2005 murder of a 10-year-old boy, escaped from the Curry County Detention Center in Clovis, N.M, in 2008, CNN reported.

He was apprehended by Mexican authorities in October 2012 and returned to the Curry County prison Saturday, the U.S. Marshals Service said in a news release.
