Cocoa High School senior Robert Marucci, 18, told WKMG-TV, Orlando, he was suspended from school for taking a role in an adult film to pay his family's bills.
The school district said Tuesday his view of the matter was incorrect, and that after the conclusion of an investigation, he is welcome to return to school Wednesday. It did not specify the reason for his suspension, citing privacy laws.
"No child would ever be suspended for a job they have outside the school environment," said school spokeswoman Michelle Irwin.
Marucci's mother, Melissa Lieb, said she was told her son "was expelled, not just suspended, he was expelled due to his explicit, adult, life style career."
Marucci said he appeared in videos on an adult website "to help my mother out economically."
Referring to his suspension, Marucci added, "I feel like I have been treated unfairly and this is unjust. This [work] was completely legal. I didn't break any laws, and this took place outside of school."
