PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 21 (UPI) -- The mother of a young woman gunned down as they walked together in Philadelphia said Monday the man trying to get her daughter's purse "shot to kill."
Amber Long, 26, was killed about 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the Northern Liberties neighborhood, WPVI-TV reported. Her mother, Stephanie, who had come to the city from Harrisburg, Pa., to visit her daughter, said they were on their way to pick up Amber's car at her boyfriend's house after an evening out.
Stephanie Long said they were approached by two men.
"One of them grabbed my purse and got away. The other one tried to grab her purse and she resisted," she said. "He shot her; he just shot her at pointblank range. He shot her in the chest and he shot to kill. It went right in the heart."
Police said they had identified two "persons of interest." Police Capt. James Clark said at a Monday afternoon news conference they were being interviewed.
Amber Long was working for an architectural firm after studying architecture at Philadelphia University.
"She moved here to go to school and when she came here for school, she loved the city and she stayed," her father, Troy, said. "She wanted to get a job here, so she got a got a job here. She stayed. She loves Philly."
