WASHINGTON, Jan. 18 (UPI) -- A non-profit group spun off from U.S. President Barack Obama's re-election campaign says it raised more than $26 million in 2013 from more than 421,000 donors.
Organizing for America said nearly $5.7 million was raised from more than 115,000 donors in the last three months of 2013, The Hill reported Friday.
Notable donors who gave $100,000 each included venture capitalist Ryan Smith and Olan Mills, former chairman of a chain of photography studios that bear his name.
Author Amy Goldman Fowler contributed $250,000.
The average donation was $37.14, said spokeswoman Katie Hogan.
OFA says it discloses donors who give over a certain amount to combat accusations from Republicans and political watchdog groups that it is selling access to the president. The group does not accept corporate donations.
Hogan said the donations support "our organizers and volunteers working to tip the scales back towards the American people and away from special interests in Washington."
