Jodi Arias penalty phase retrial will begin March 17

PHOENIX, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- A second attempt to determine the punishment for convicted murderer Jodi Arias will begin with jury selection March 17 in Phoenix, a court spokeswoman said.

The date was set Monday during a hearing in Maricopa County Superior Court, CBS News reported.

Arias, 33, was found guilty last year of killing her former boyfriend, Tyler Alexander, in suburban Phoenix in 2008. A sentencing phase jury then failed to reach a unanimous decision on whether she deserved the death penalty or life imprisonment. Once seated, new jurors will again be tasked with the same decision.

In November, a judge ruled there would be no live television coverage of the penalty phase retrial, unlike her criminal trial, which was broadcast.
