Warrant details why Hernandez suspected in 2012 double homicide

BOSTON, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- Former NFL player Aaron Hernandez was in a vehicle from which shots were fired that killed two men in 2012, Massachusetts police allege in a search warrant.

Information in the just-released warrant provides the first details about why Boston police consider Hernandez a suspect in the deaths of Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado, the Hartford (Conn.) Courant reported Tuesday.

Hernandez, formerly with the New England Patriots, has not been charged in the homicides. The warrant, filed Tuesday in Superior Court in Bristol, does not indicate if police suspect him of pulling the trigger.

Hernandez faces murder charges in the June 17, 2013, death of Odin Lloyd near his home in North Attleborough.

The warrant says police believe Hernandez was in a sports utility vehicle the night of July 16, 2012, that circled the block waiting for Abreu, Furtado and three other men to get in their vehicle after leaving the Cure Lounge. Surveillance video shows someone inside the SUV firing several shots at the victims' car while both vehicles are at a stop light.

One other person in the victim's car was wounded.

The warrant does not suggest a motive for the killings and Hernandez has no apparent connection to the victims.
