Nancy Silvestri, deputy press secretary of the New York City Office of Emergency Management, said the pilot put the plane down on the Major Deegan Expressway in the Bronx shortly before 3:30 p.m. EST when one of the three "experienced an onboard emergency," NBC News reported.
The two men and one woman, whose names were not known, were taken to a hospital to be checked out for minor injuries, the network said. All three were expected to be released later in the day, NBC said.
The city fire department said no cars on the highway were affected by the surprise landing.
The three occupants had flown from Danbury, Conn., for a tour of the Statue of Liberty and were on their way back to Connecticut when the incident occurred, Silvestri said.
