The man was working with a backhoe at the International Salt Co. in Falls Township when the pile of salt collapsed on him Thursday, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
Mary Kay Warner, the company's marketing manager, said International Salt is cooperating with an investigation into the death and said other workers are "deeply saddened."
The facility is at the Kinder Morgan Port of Bucks County on the Delaware River, where International Salt leases a pier.
A spokesman for the port owner said International Salt supplies many of the towns in the area with road salt. The first significant snowstorm of the season in the Philadelphia area began Thursday afternoon.
