Man used homemade bomb to kill dog with 'devil in it'

PORTLAND, Ore., Jan. 3 (UPI) -- A Washington state man says he killed his dog with a homemade bomb because he thought his ex-girlfriend had put a demon in the animal.

Christopher Dillingham pleaded guilty to charges of possession of explosives without a license and first degree animal cruelty in a Stevenson court, KPTV-TV in Portland, Ore., reported Thursday.

He was arrested in August after police officers called to his home found furniture and other items strewn on the lawn. Dillingham told officers the world was due to end from a nuclear strike and that he was preparing for the "rapture." He said his possessions were on the lawn because they were inhabited by "the souls of demons."

Officers also found the remains of a dog. Court documents said Dillingham killed the dog, which had been given to him by his ex-girlfriend, with a bomb he made because he thought she had "put the devil in it."

Police said Dillingham apparently made the bomb from black powder taken from fireworks he sold at his business.

Dillingham was sentenced to a year in jail, with credit for time served.
