One person killed, one injured in avalanche in Montana

BOZEMAN, Mont., Jan. 2 (UPI) -- One person died after he was buried by an avalanche while snowmobiling in Montana, Gallatin County Sheriff Brian Gootkin said.

Gootkin said the victim was riding Wednesday in the Portal Creek area south of Bozeman with two other people, KZBK-TV, Bozeman, reported. Another man also was caught in the avalanche, but sustained only minor injuries.

While emergency crews were at the scene Wednesday, Gootkin said teams would fly into the remote area Thursday to recover the man's body.
