ATLANTA, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- A 7-year-old Georgia girl rescued after falling into the family well has developed bleeding on the brain, her mother says.
Megan Winters was left with a number of broken bones after she fell into the well, which is about 40 to 50 feet deep, at her family's home in Carroll County, WSB-TV, Atlanta, reported Monday.
In a Facebook posting, the girl's mother asked for prayers after doctors found bruising and bleeding on Megan's brain. In an earlier post, the mother said her daughter's arm was broken and her leg was broken in three places.
The girl also broke her hip and several bones in her face.
Carroll County firefighter Lt. Clay Kierbow said he found the girl, who fell headfirst, stuck in an unusual position when he was sent down to rescue her.
"Her face was down and one leg was up to the left and the other was up under her," Kierbow said. "She was conscious and alert able to talk."
"I was able to get the right foot down right beside her and finally get webbing around her, tied it off to a rope," he added. "The ones up top pulled her up."
Megan's grandmother also was admitted to the hospital because of the stress from the accident.
