WASHINGTON, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Two women say they managed to revive a 6-month-old baby that stopped breathing on a flight to Puerto Rico.
The incident happened during a Dec. 8 JetBlue flight from Washington to San Juan, the Boston Globe reported Sunday.
A flight attendant asked that any passengers with medical experience report to the back of the plane to help resuscitate a baby that had stopped breathing.
Jeanne Gallahue, 63, who has worked as a trainer for first responders, said she and a fellow passenger, Rose Smith, a cardiac nurse, volunteered to help.
The two women administered CPR on the baby and were able to revive her. However, she continued to stop breathing, Smith said.
"We counted, and she went under about eight times, and we were able to bring her back," Smith said.
The plane was able to land in Wilmington, N.C., where the baby received further medical attention.
A JetBlue spokesman confirmed one of its planes made a landing for a medical emergency on Dec. 8, but did not give any further details.
