BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz., Dec. 30 (UPI) -- An Arizona high school teacher is dead and his wife severely injured after being attacked by their boxer during a dogfight they tried to stop, police said

Thomas Vick Sr., 64, and his wife, Diane, 65, tried to intervene in a fight between the boxer and their cocker spaniel Saturday, the Mohave Daily News, Bullhead City, reported.

"They both attempted to break up the fight, but the boxer suddenly turned and began attacking them," said Lt. Nick Sessions of the Bullhead City Police Department.

The Vicks were transported to Western Arizona Regional Medical Center where Thomas Vick was pronounced dead. Diane Vick was airlifted to another hospital where she was treated for her injuries.

Animal control officials took possession of the two dogs, which were being held at a facility in Bullhead City.
