Sonja Farak, 35, was arrested in January for allegedly stealing cocaine and heroin from evidence she had tested and replacing it with other substances at the Massachusetts Department of Health. Her arrest came months after another drug-lab chemist, Annie Dookhan, was arrested for alleged malfeasance.
Dookhan, who also worked for the Department of Health as a chemist in the state's drug-testing lab, allegedly falsified test records and lied under oath about having a master's degree in chemistry.
Farak is charged with evidence tampering, larceny of drugs and possession of cocaine. She had been free on $5,000 bail.
Hampshire Superior Court Judge Mary-Lou Rup Judge Mary-Lou Rup revoked bail Monday after state prosecutors said Farak failed a drug test, the Republican of Springfield, Mass., reported.
An attorney for Farak said she snorted some cocaine Friday after attending an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, the newspaper reported.
Hundreds of people convicted of drug offenses are seeking new trials as a result of the alleged irregularities in the state drug lab.
