WEST READING, Pa., Dec. 22 (UPI) -- More than 5,000 people gathered Saturday evening in a street in West Reading, Pa., to sing carols for a girl dying from a rare form of leukemia.
Delaney "Laney" Brown, 8, had requested the Christmas sing, the Reading Eagle reported. The block where she lives was closed to traffic starting at 4 p.m. and the singing began at about 6:30 p.m.
Laney got to hear Christmas favorites like "Silent Night," "Joy to the World" and "Jingle Bells." Before the singing started, girls from her dance group at Dance Fusion Studios in West Lawn performed.
The singing ended with "Happy Birthday." Laney's eighth birthday was Friday.
Laney's family reported Friday on their Facebook page she had gotten another wish fulfilled, a telephone conversation with singing star Taylor Swift, the Eagle said.
Laney was diagnosed in May with an unusual form of leukemia. Her family said they have been told she probably has only a few days or weeks to live.
