Obama: 2014 could be 'breakthrough' for U.S. economy

WASHINGTON, Dec. 20 (UPI) -- President Barack Obama said Friday the U.S. economy grew stronger in 2013 and is poised for "a breakthrough year" in 2014.

Citing jobs and economic growth figures, the president said at his final news conference of 2013: "We head into next year with an economy that is stronger than it was at the start of the year."

"I firmly believe that 2014 can be a breakthrough year for America," he said.
