The Pew Research Center in report released Thursday said Hispanics and Asian-Americans support providing a citizenship path for illegal immigrants. But 55 percent of Hispanics say allowing illegals to live and work without fear of being deported is more important while 35 percent disagree.
Among Asian-Americans, 49 percent say cutting the deportation threat is more important.
About two-thirds of U.S. immigrants are either Hispanic or Asian. About three-quarters of those in the country illegally are Hispanic.
The poll found 89 percent of Hispanics and 72 percent of Asian-Americans support the 13-year path to citizenship proposed to Congress.
